Classroom Policies and Procedures
Classroom Rules:
• 1. Listen carefully to the teacher and others.
• 2. Following directions that are given to you.
• 3. Work quietly. Do not disturb others who are working.
• 4. Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions.
• 5. Work and play safely.
Classroom Rules:
• Check 5 Rules (use a number 5 with your hand)
• 1. Eyes on Speaker
• 2. Ears Open
• 3. Voices Off
• 4. Hands and Feet Quiet
• 5. Sit Up Straight
• Check 5 can be given by either or both the teacher and the students at any time.
Turn A Card (Discipline Technique)
• Each child starts his/her day out with 1 green, 1 yellow, 1 orange, and 1 red card.
• The child will be given 1 to 2 warnings before they will be told to turn a card.
• Green Card = Great Day
• Yellow Card = Warning Card
• Orange Card = 5 minutes of recess, possible note home to parent(s)
• Red Card = All of recess, a note home or a phone call to parent(s)
• This technique is to ensure that discipline is consistent for all of the students.
• Each student will be given a sticker in their planner for each day to let parents know what color of card they were on for that day.
Bobcat Bucks
· Bobcat Bucks are going to be used as a positive reward and a consequence.
· Students will have the opportunity to earn Bobcat Bucks in situations that they show positive behavior.
· Students will have the opportunity to loose Bobcat Bucks in situations that they show negative behavior.
· In my classroom I will also use Bobcat Bucks for rewards on earning green cards, 100% on Spelling tests, reaching monthly AR points goal, being respectful of others, working hard, following directions, etc. . .
· Students will be allowed to purchase items from our Bobcat Store by using their Bobcat Bucks as payment.
Grading Policy/Assignment Policy:
• Grades will be given and recorded on all tests.
• Grades will also be given on daily assignments in all subjects.
(Unless no assignment is given by the teacher.)
• A homework question(s) will be posted on the class website for all students on Monday and due on Friday of the same week. If the student does not e-mail the teacher with the answer to the question(s) by Friday morning, they will spend recess time completing the homework question(s). These question(s) will be worth 10 points and a grade will be applied to the appropriate subject.
• The students will be given their Spelling list on Monday, and they will test on Friday. Their list will be written in their School Planner. (A grade will be given and recorded from the test on Friday.)
• Daily assignments that are not completed in the time given will be put in a Daily Homework Folder until the end of the day. At the end of the day the students will take the remaining work in the folder and take it home for homework. This homework will be due the following morning.
• Any homework that does not come back to school completed or does not come back at all will be completed during recess that day.
Grading Scale:
(The grading scale for 4th and 5th grade will be A, B, C, D, and F.)
• A = 100% - 90%
• B = 90% - 80%
• C = 80% - 70%
• D = 70% - 60%
• F = 60% and below
Homework Folders:
• Students will receive a Homework Folder with their name on it.
• The folder will have two pockets: one pocket will be labeled Please Return to School and one pocket will be labeled Please Keep at Home.
• The pocket labeled Please Return to School will contain the homework sheet that is handed out on Monday and needs to be returned back to school on the Friday. The students Homework Log, and any other homework that the students takes home for that night and needs to be returned to school the next morning finished.
• The pocket labeled Please Keep at Home will contain any work that was completed during school and has been graded, notes for the parent(s), notes from the teacher or other faculty, and notes concerning the student.
Homework Log:
· The student Homework Log will need to be documented in their Student Planners. Please write down on the appropriate date (example: if you are doing homework on Monday night, write down what was done in the Monday box in the Student Planner.
· I use the Homework Log as a way to keep track of what the students are doing academically at home.
· I also think it is a great way to help teach the students responsibility.
· Each student will be responsible for 20 minutes of Reading and 20 minutes of Math each night.
· The Reading Activity could be reading their AR books, studying Spelling words, or any type of Reading homework the student might have.
· The Math Activity could be anything related to Math.
· A great resource for students to use if they don’t have homework from school, will be the website links on our classroom website.
· All homework needs to be documented in student planners along with a parent signature.
Expectations:
• I have very high expectations of all of my students in the classroom and school environment.
• I expect the students to work hard when they are in the classroom and after school on any homework they may have.
• I expect the students to have respect and be friendly to their peers, myself, and other faculty.
• I expect the students to LEARN LOTS AND HAVE FUN!!
